When someone asks you what you've been up to in the holidays, skiing on a glacier in shorts and T-shirt must surely be hard to beat? This round trip takes you from Bergen or Norheimsund via the charming Hardangerfjord and up to Folgefonna. The Fonna Glacier Ski Resort is situated 1,200 metres above sea level, with a stunning location on Norway's third largest glacier.

Here, everything is prepared for both beginners and experts to practise true summer skiing at its best. Broad alpine slopes provide plenty of space for everyone, and those seeking an added challenge can try their hand at the freestyle park with its rails and jumps.  The facility is so good that it attracts elite alpine skiers, freestylers and snowboarders who train there every year.

When you take a rest on the slope, be sure to feast your eyes on the unbeatable view across the glacier, fjord and all the way to the North Sea on a fine and clear summer day.

Highlights

Sights on the trip

  • Hardangerfjord

Norway's second longest fjord is 179 km long. It extends inland to the base of the Hardangervidda plateau, the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe. The fjord and surrounding area has been a tourist destination since the 1800s, and continues to impress with its beautiful nature, living cultural heritage and memorable experiences.

  • Folgefonna

Folgefonna is actually not a product of the Ice Age, it was formed around 5,000 years ago. The glacier is located in the county of Hordaland and is one of the southernmost glaciers in Norway. Summer skiing has been a popular activity here for the past 20 years, and the ski-lift is mounted directly on the glacier.

  • Herand

The small rural community of Herand in the municipality of Jondal has been voted Norway's finest rural community, with its well-preserved cultural landscape and beautiful location. Here, you can experience authentic Norwegian cultural history with old farmyards, marketplaces, Bronze Age carvings, a boat-building museum and local flavours.
