Fjord cruise Lysefjord and Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock)
- Season22. May - 16. Sept.
- Departure pointStrandkaien Stavanger
- Durationapprox. 2,5 hours
Hanging off the edge of a cliff like Tom Cruise during the filming of Mission Impossible 6 isn't for everyone (thankfully). One of the best things about Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock) is that you can enjoy this world-famous sight regardless of whether you experience it from the fjord or hike up to it.
For those of you who choose the fjord option, you can also look forward to an invigorating fjord experience of small islands, waterfalls, traditional farms, wildlife, fresh fjord air and the wind in your hair. The stories and explanations of the guide along the way bring both life and context to the surroundings as you pass through them.
All you have to do is sit back in a modern and comfortable catamaran and enjoy the fjord landscape through the large panoramic windows – or enjoy the view from the deck.

Sights on the trip
- Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock)
This famous mountain ledge is 604 metres above sea level and is something that people around the world have on their 'bucket list'. It’s not hard to see why! This unique rock formation is a spectacle you definitely have to see, either from the fjord or by making the hike up to it.
There are many stories of the people who lived on the mountainsides along Lysefjord in times gone by. The somewhat mystical 'Fantahålå' was the hiding place of vagabonds who hadn't paid their taxes and so were trying to avoid the sheriff.
- Local wildlife
Lysefjord is home to a rich variety of bird and animal life. Look out for porpoises, seals, golden eagles, peregrine falcons and goshawks. Goats also graze the steep mountainsides in the summer.
The excursion starts from Strandkaien in Vågen in Stavanger. The boat has a universal design and there are several toilets on-board. Most departures also have a kiosk where you can purchase food and drinks.
You can also purchase tickets for the excursion prior to departure at the tourist information office on the quay.
The fjord cruise has a full sightseeing programme in several languages.
We also stop at the Lysefjordsenteret tourist centre for advance bookings.
Here at Go Fjords, we want you to have an enjoyable travel experience which meets your expectations in every way. With this in mind, please read through our general conditions of travel before departure.
